After the rather increment weather lately it was in doubt that this weeks game would take place but the omens were good and all systems were go. Firstly I would like to welcome new signing Gavin Kindon to the squad who proved to be a capable asset on his debut game with his flamboyant style of game keeper.
With today’s game being just as important as last weeks cup game as now we have to maintain our bid for the league. The game barely 3 minutes old a neat through by Tony McGinn beating the offside trap which Burton vehemently protested saw Darren Evans net the first of his hat tricks with ease.
Firs were beginning to take control but goals were eluding the team with what can only be some lethargic finishing. Calvin McHale brought a fine save from the Burton goalkeeper who parried the ball onto the bar only to see Calvin cross the rebound to Lee Bradburn for Firs second. Lee also took a great shot to net his second. Now minutes from half time Darren Evans unselfishly squared a ball to give Calvin McHale his first goal. That is how it stayed till half time, Firs with a 4-0 cushion.
The second half barely started Darren Evans pounces to get his second. No one had really got there tails up and seemed invincible. A hard hit low corner saw Calvin McHale net his second. With the game one-way traffic Burton still kept plugging away and came close with a goal only denied with Calvin Kindon’s diving save onto the crossbar. This gave Burton a boost and Firs defence started to wave and through a mix up saw a Burton player with only the goalkeeper to beat put the ball wide. Burton now a long time under the cosh where starting to gain confidence in themselves and through a diabolical pounce gave Firs goalkeeper no chance giving Burton some just deserves with a goal.
After which seemed Firs were losing their way they got their control back through Darren netting his third from a well placed corner. The game back in control Firs saw Calvin McHale also get a hat trick but not satisfied with three scored a fourth a minute later. With Firs finishing 9-1 they keep their league challenge well within their means.
