Firs
are back to their high scoring ways after last weeks close encounter
with the Hatherton Arms. From the start the Firs were playing with
authority but chances of a goal went begging to some poor finishing.
James Booth had an easy chance to open the Firs account with an easy
lob but missed, the ball going to Mick McGinn who was unlucky to hit
the bar. Again Mick McGinn came close when a long ball from Darren
Evans was headed just wide. But the frustration of the Firs forwards
came to an end in the twentieth minute when Jason Booth scored the
first of his goals. This seemed to motivate the teams when five minutes
later Darren Evans made a break down the right, crossed a peach of
a ball to Bryn Jones who netted with style. Ten minutes later Compton,
who by now were beginning to flag a little, made a terrible mix up
in defence and who was there to seize that opportunity, yes of course,
Calvin McHale. That was how the score remained till the interval,
Firs 3 - Compton 0.
With the break not five minutes old a long through ball to Mick McGinn
finally gets him on the score sheet. Firs were now in full control
of the game and their ability was beginning to show too much for Compton.
The fifth goal came through some good football and when a long throw
ball came to Darren Evans his clinical finishing was second to none.
Then came the goal of the match, Jason Booth lashing onto a beautiful
volley, a goal that was pure class. After this it was one-way traffic
with Mick McGinn getting his hat trick and Lee Bradburn also scoring.
Compton did get a consolation goal but on the day were truly beaten.
Man of the match this week was given to Gareth Morgan who played a
solid game in defence and is back to form after his injury.
