Cup fever is with us again and this one proved to be a cracker. Conditions weren’t the best but both teams played in the spirit in which Sunday mornings are all about. Darren Chilton who always gives a good solid performance in defence thought he would try and get on the score sheet with a 30 yard scorcher only to be denied by the cross bar. Also Darren Evans tried a long range shot this time the gamekeeper hardly got in the way of this one, you could see the grimace on his face and the shaking of his hands as it must of stung somewhat.
The quality of football was a pleasure to watch with Firs just having the edge and their first time passing was a real treat. With both teams virtually cancelling each other out goals seemed a long time in coming. It was a good through ball by Darren Evans that gave Calvin McHale the break of the leash and a ball, which was pure quality to put Firs one up. Mick McGinn also tried a 30 yarder, which was parried away. The score remained a t one nil till half time.
The second half was of the same quality as the first with Firs just having the edge. Some chances came Firs way but were squandered recklessly not like the clinical finishing that the supporters have come to expect. Man of the match went to Darren Evans, with a special mention to Gareth Morgan whose display in defence was exemplary.
