Good morning Folks this weeks game against Trysull Tigers was one
hell of a game in which Firs rose to the game and ran out 2-0 winners.
As memory still in their minds of letting a 3-0 lead slip in their
last encounter Firs were ready for this one.
From the outset Firs played with much more confidence than the previous
week against HUF FC. Their running on and off the ball was a joy
to watch. Each player’s performance was played with passion
and the will to win this one. As both sides settled each seemed
to be fairly matched until Bryn Jones launched a volley which can
only be said was the mother of them all leaving the Trysull goalkeeper
glued to the spot not knowing where the ball was till he fetched
it from the back of the net!
At the Firs end Gavin Kindon made a superb flying save to keep them
in the lead. Firs playing now with more authority saw Bryn Jones
on the break to put Firs further ahead with a dynamic left foot
shot leaving the Trysull goalkeeper no chance. The score remained
2-0 at the break. During which Tony McGinns team talk was keep the
game simple and no fancy stuff get the ball away. Which in the second
half was played to effect.
There were one or two hiccups but good defensive play and some good
goal keeping kept Firs sheet clean. Especially Wayne Hughes who
played a dream game in the back four and was given Man Of The Match.
A couple of chances went begging for Firs but the result remained
2-0 at the whistle.
As stated in the last editorial Darren Evans lobbed the HUF goalie
from twenty yards. I would like to amend it by letting you know
it was more like FORTY YARDS. (Soz Darren!)
Next we have to do it all again as we face Trysull Tigers in the
semi-final of the Skedgel Cup away. If the last two games are anything
to go by this will be a real pot boiler. So folks don’t miss
it!
