Skedgel Cup Final
The night started with big expectations from the lads meeting early
in the Firs. Their demeanour was a jovial one and knowing this was
the big one they were ready. Alas the Talisman had other ideas.
Firs started badly with the Talisman playing more sharply and at
a faster pace. Firs started to get a grip and slowly got into the
game, but in the 20th minute the Talisman broke through to go one
up. Now despondent Firs were still fighting to get back into the
game but the pace of the Talisman were still giving them the edge.
Then came a Talisman corner with a mix up in the Firs defence saw
them go further in the lead when the scored their second goal. Firs
desperately trying to get back, but to no avail and that’s
how the score remained up till half time 2-0 to the Talisman.
The second half under way and Firs playing with more confidence
got a goal through Mick McGinn. This seemed to be the turning point
as Talisman seemed to panic as Firs stepped a gear. All but the
tremendous goalkeeper from the Talisman keeper Firs could have netted
at least four chances. Firs were now plying like their old selves
and it only seemed a matter of time that goals would come. Alas
through a defence mix up saw Talisman score a 3rd and gain a two
goal cushion. Firs now looked forlorn as they gave everything to
no avail and with darkness setting in Talisman scored a fourth.
The writing was on the wall for Firs and that’s how the score
remained, Talisman 4-Firs 1. The game was played with spirit and
Talisman worthy winners.
