Semi
Final Skedgel Cup
Good morning folks after last weeks top of the table clash with
Trysull Tigers this week they were hosts to Firs. This was the Semi-Final
of the Skedgel Cup. With Firs taking the points last week the team
were geared up for this one and remembering the old adage no-one
remembers losers of semi-finals.
The game started evenly although Firs started to hit their rhythm
and being the more experienced side it showed. With the game into
the 15th minute Mick McGinn tried a long range shot which went way
off target, but within minutes made amends with a dream lob from
excess of 40 yards which left Trysull’s goalkeeper transfixed
to the spot as the ball hit the net. Trysull’s inexperience
was beginning to show Firs were playing with much more authority.
The back four Wayne Hughes, Ryan Cocking, Viv Philips and Gareth
Morgan were containing Trysull’s attack comfortably picking
up everything that came at them. On the half-hour a short corner
from Tony McGinn to Darren evans saw him take the ball to the edge
of Trysull’s area and with a rocket of a shot left the goalkeeper
no chance with his shooting as clinical as ever. Before Trysull
could recover the ball was in the net again this time from an Andy
Lane tap in.
That’s how the score remained at half time Firs 3 nil up but
could history repeat itself because the lads had been in this position
before.
The second half Trysull had to do something but as stated Firs defence
were doing their finest and were far to strong, with every player
now doing their bit Trysull had no answers to Firs control of the
game. Firs had a few chances to go further ahead but to no avail.
Calvin McHale our goalscoring machine has had a few quiet games
but I am sure he will be back with vengance. Midway through the
second half a bit of a mix up in the Firs defense saw Trysull score
, was this to be déjà vu ???? No not this time, Firs
made sure and finished worthy winners.
There was only one hiccup yours truly forgot to fill in the team
sheet correctly and left Gary Dunseath off the subs bench, my apologises
to Gary and as someone said bell end well that’s life who
care. Well done lads.
