The Firs Football
Club was originally formed during the 1968-9 season, some thirty-four
years ago.
Though the early part of the clubs history saw the club lasting
just four seasons before they withdrew from the Wolverhampton
& District Sunday Football League. This was not before adding
their first title to their honours list, this was to be achieved
when they became the Fourth Division League Cup Runners-Up during
the 1972-73 season.
There was then a lapse of four seasons before the club was reformed,
rejoining the Sunday League in 1976-77.
Again in the fourth division, Firs again reached the League Cup
Final, though again they had to be satisfied with the runners-up
spot, being defeated 0-4 by Park Village.
However just two more seasons later, Firs again called it a day,
withdrawing from the league for the second time, mainly due to
lack of interest within the official ranks of the club.
A lapse of five seasons however once more saw the club reformed
for the second time. This time Firs F.C were to remain until 1991-2
collecting the Division League Cup Runners-Up title on the way
for the 1986-7 campaign.
Firs sadly once more saw its doors close when in 1991-2 the club
withdrew from the league structures.
The season of 1998-9 saw the next formation of the club. Here
a new found commitment of such persons as founder members, Dave
Vickers (Secretary), Bob Hall and John Platt, saw the Firs team
defeated just once in a staggering twenty-two league outings as
they became League Runners-Up during the season.
Gaining promotion to the sixth division for the 1999-2000 season,
Firs took the division by storm as they completed the season as
league champions without dropping a single point. An achievement
accomplished by only five other clubs in the history of the Sunday
League. That same season, Firs were present at two cup finals,
though taking the runners-up spot in the final of the T-Bird Cup,
losing 1-0 to the Three Stirrups, Firs avenged that defeat a week
later with a 3-1 win over the same opponents in the final of the
SF Skedgel Cup.
In was a quiet year for them in the 2001-2 season but with such
accomplishments under their belt it will be hard to keep a good
team down in the 2002-3 season.
